Clery Crime: Weapons Law Arrest

Under the Clery Act, the University of Florida issues Timely Warning messages regarding Clery Act crimes which pose a serious and continuing threat to the campus community.

On May 26, 2024, at 7:50 p.m., University of Florida Police Department and Gainesville Police Department officers heard shots fired at the UF Park and Ride parking lot near the UF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine building on 3450 Hull Road. Officers were already at the parking lot in response to a large crowd that had gathered from a nearby block party. Officers on scene detained several individuals who had attempted to flee the area.

One person was injured during the incident and was treated for minor injuries. There were no reported gunshot injuries.

During this multi-agency investigation, two individuals were arrested on scene for illegal possession of firearms.

The joint investigation, which is being handled by UFPD and GPD, into this incident is ongoing. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

The University of Florida strongly believes that no person is responsible for harm inflicted by another person.

Criminal incidents can be reported to UF Campus Security Authorities who are designated, trained, and mandatory reporters under the Clery Act when victims choose not to report to law enforcement.
